Mt. Hope United Church of Christ is nestled among the woodlands and farmlands of the Blue Knob area, near Blue Knob Ski Resort and Blue Knob State Park, offering a peaceful and scenic setting for worship.

Our congregation includes professionals, farmers, retirees, office workers, homemakers, blue-collar workers, and younger members. Since 2020, our church has been steadily growing, while maintaining a warm, family-oriented atmosphere where people of all ages feel welcome.

Fellowship is an important part of our life together, as we value building meaningful relationships within our church family.

In May, they host the Blessing of the Fields service. Mt. Hope also sponsors the annual Greenfield Charge Vacation Bible School, typically held in July, where all children ages 3 and up are warmly welcomed to participate.

We are active in the Juniata Association of the Keystone Conference and the Claysburg Ministerium, helping us stay connected with the wider church and our local community. Mission is also central to who we are. We support a variety of ministries through our Church’s Wider Mission offerings, as well as the local food bank and other outreach efforts.

History of Mt Hope UCC

  • 1832 – Preaching in old log schoolhouse.
    • Preacher was Rev. Christian Weinbrenner.
  • 1848 – Bob’s Creek Congregation Established.
    • It’s named after the actual creek that runs through the State Game Lands that runs behind the church.
  • 1852 – First Church Building
  • 1857 – Renamed to “Mt. Hope Reformed Church.”
  • 1883 – New Church erected
    • Cost $2,800.
  • 1925 – Church destroyed by fire.
  • 1926 – Dedicated new Church Building.
  • 1957 – “Mt. Hope United Church of Christ.”
    • Rename with the establishment of the United Church of Christ.
